Dragon tales

The huge, older dragon stands above the fireplace
in the big, great cave that all of them call home
in front of him, dragonlets and human children
are all brightly chatting 'till the old one starts speaking.

"Listen to my tales, my man and dragon cubs,
for I have for you many wonderful ones.
Tales of war and friendhsip and wonder and blood,
of how our two kinds did manage to make peace."

The small human and dragon cubs are all mute,
and their eyes, some yellow, some white, look at him.
The huge, older dragon, with words from his maw,
drags his little audience to prodigious lands.

The fire crackles happily in the big, great cave
the tale now is over, the cubs are all content
the huge, older dragon wishes them good night;
they now sleep together, wings and arms embracing.
